Hey guys,

So I have been looking to buy a nice old Silvertone bass for some time now. I actually just got home from a tour to Europe with my band and I have decided to reward myself with purchasing a new bass. We also have a few music festivals coming up this summer so I am justifying this purchase with that haha.

Anyhow, I found a 1963 Silvertone at a local guitar shop in town as this is my first vintage purchase I just wanted to ask you guys what I should look out for when I go to give it a test run. It's about $800 Canadian, which seems like a decent amount. Price matching it I could only find ones for about 700-750 USD the cheapest.

Thanks guys any advice would be much appreciated.

I agree with GretchWretch, those old necks can become unplayable in short order. Tune it up and check the neck carefully. I also agree to use light strings. Vintage stuff is awesome!!! Good luck and Rock On!!!
