Fishman bridge pickup wiring

I have a bass with one magnetic pickup and a (Fishman) piezo bridge. The strings are very 'lively' and will pick up all sorts of noise, which will reduce if I touch the strings myself. I found no connection from the internal ground to the string, despite having a wire going to the bridge. The grounding wire was trapped under the bridge, but clearly not connecting. The bridge has a heavy, epoxy paint coating which might stop connection. The strings that have been put on have also painted end rings, which might also stop connection. Normally they would connect via the bridge saddle points but these are piezo and thus insulated. Anybody found a good way to earth the strings on such a setup?
