Double Bass Fishman preamp - battery or no?

i used the Fishman preamp I bought used here for the first time recently. Worked great. I used a 9V battery. Do I want/need a power supply instead and, if so, from Fishman or elsewhere?

You can get the Fishman from Gollihur.
I like to forget about the battery draining.
Maybe there's a bit more headroom too, but I can't vouch for that.

I've always used the battery in mine because I hate having to carry an adapter and worry about having access to two plugs. The battery lasts a long time and if the low battery light ever comes on you've still got plenty of juice left. When I use it with a mixer or my Markbass AC101 I just run off phantom power.

I'll stick with the battery for now. Does it sense when something's plugged in and only turn on when there's an input connected?

I'm using with a Phil Jones Double Four - no phantom power there, I'm sure.

The Platinum Pro does, and I think it's likely the others do too

The battery will drain when something is connected to the input. I run mine off the battery for tidiness on stage, but keep a power supply handy. When I'm on the road (playing 6-7 nights per week) I can usually get about three weeks, or a little more, out of a single battery. I change it as soon as possible after the low battery light comes on. The new Platinum Pro EQ Analog will not run off of phantom power.

Some audiophiles argue that DC power is cleaner than a wall wart, and some high-end audio preamplifiers have battery power to avoid the noise from mains. Don't think if I've ever heard a difference. Battery power is one less thing in my bag, one less cord on the stage, one less thing to forget either at home or in a club, so I don't use the power adapter.

I hate using wall warts because they cords are too fragile and usually much too short. More than once I've seen wall warts fail on gigs (usually the cord opens). When it's powering the piano, that's a real drag

If I can use a battery instead I will, always.

If I must plug it into the wall, give me a real AC cord please.
