Fishman Pro EQ Platinum Bass Preamp/EQ/DI QUESTION....

Hello everyone...

So, I'm thinking about getting one of these Fishman Pro EQ Platinum bass EQ/DI's, and I'm wondering if I could accomplish a setup I've been looking for.

I have an Ampeg SVT-VR Head and I run it through a 1X15 or an 8X10. If you're familiar with Ampeg, you know that the SVT-VR has an XLR port in the back of the amplifier head. I use this for a DI when I don't mic, running it into the XLR port on the DI box.

So here's what I'm thinking - is it possible to go 1/4" in from my bass, then 1/4" out into my amp, AND XLR out into the back of my amp? In other words, could I run it as an EQ "pedal" and a D.I. with an XLR and 1/4'' going into my amp?



If you have any other suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. I also thought of possibly using a Boss GEB-7 as an EQ and a Tech 21 SansAmp DI or maybe an MXR 6-Band EQ and getting an older EV mic... What do you guys think?

If I understand you correctly, yes you should be able to. I frequently run just the Platinum Pro straight into a power amp. Should be fine as a DI too.

For URBs and DBs, I keep going back to the Fishman.

Not really following your routing plan...

The Fishman would normally be used between your instrument and amp.

Your bass >> 1/4" IN of Fishman >> 1/4" OUT of Fishman >> 1/4" of your amp.

The XLR of the Fishman would be the D/I (wouldn't need the D/I of the SVT).

The Fishman is then the EQ. You also have the option of utilizing (Post setting) or not utilizing (Pre setting) the EQ through the XLR out.

You'd be better off if you can tap into the power amp of your SVT if you really want to use the Fishman and NOT using the preamp of the SVT. Is there an EFX return on your amp?

Otherwise, not sure why you need the Fishman at all, since you have EQ with your SVT. Unless you want a 'fancier' D/I box.

I run four bass instruments through a GK-700 this way:

Bass guitar into GK-700 (I use the GK to EQ the bass guitar). From the GK EFX send, the bass guitar is sent to a Rane MLM 42S Line Mixer (channel 1). Next I have two Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum Bass Preamps (1st for Stick bass, 2nd for EUB) plugged into the Rane channels 2 &3. The 4th channel of the Rane is for bass synth. These 4 channels are sent to the GK EFX return. This way I use the GK-700 power amp for any/all of the bass instruments, while having separate preamps/EQ for each bass.
