Star wars gets credit for being the first space movie with the future in decay .
Space movie , not last man on earth movie and not monkeys taking over , space rockets and stuff.

Star wars was the first mainstream Sci fi to show the PAST as a technological space travelling utopia in decay.
I'd cut you open and sleep in your belly like a tauntaun.

Your nerditude is weak, my friends. Star Wars is not science fiction. It's a fantasy story that happens to take place in space. Star Trek is science-based and uses fictional science. Star Wars makes no attempts at explaining anything, like how the ships work and all that.
It's soft Sci fi.
Niven and the other New Wavers of the 19 70s referred to the genre as "Space Opera".
To kick Star Wars out of Sci fi, you would also have to kick Heinlein out.

For as advanced as the Empire was they pretty much had WWII era type targeting methods for their cannons and other blaster weapons.

I know several ways you could fix that, one by simply changing two letters.
