Double Bass fixing feedback on the fly with a headway

hello, I am often playing gigs where there is very little or no time for a sound check. at the moment i am using a at pro 70 mic through a zoom a3 preamp. the zoom has an automatic feedback killer that you can turn on with a footswitch , it finds up to 3 frequencies and you can fine tune it manually. its handy but destroys the tone a little. i am wondering if the headway preamp would be less brutal in its feedback reduction- and if its the kind of thing one can fix and adjust "on the fly" by which i mean between or even DURING songs. for example simply by turning on the phase inverse would this stop feedback?

Depends very much on circumstance. I find the phase switch on the headway or fdeck works fast and really well in very resonant rooms or on resonant stage floors, places where I get into trouble even at low volumes. If the setting is loud anyway and the feedback source is less one dimensional phase reversal often does very little. The notch on the headway does it job, but I doubt it does it faster and better than the zoom.

I have used mine on the fly on several occasions, if you mount it on a mike stand using a right angle mic mount, it's easy to get it close enough to reach over and access the EQ quickly. You can also notch out a single band in the upper frequencies

and use the low cut switch and bass control, to rid yourself of low frequency build up. It's easy to do these adjustments on the fly.

Exactly! I actually use a gooseneck that clips into my music stand, so it's always right there.

That's a tricky one. I don't think you could ever walk onto stage with full confidence that you could fix any feedback situation with EQ/Phase alone. Lets face it - trying to pinpoint frequencies on a noisy stage - sax player noodling away, drummer tuning his snare, engineer running cables around your feet - is a complete nightmare.

Great suggestions above but IMO the best "quick" solution is to have a piezo on standby. I have a Headway Pre and its a fantastic tool but gave up trying to use a mic in any situation where I didn't have a decent soundcheck. THE STRESS.
