Double Bass Fixing higher register arco response

Hi

Wondering if anyone has ever fixed poor higher register response on the D string.
And what fixed it?

My issue is:
When I bow notes on the D string from G# up the timber changes becomes muffled and winny sounding and the bow response becomes forced and difficult.
Similar to how people describe pizz on gut D strings.
I know there is a wolf near A but I don't think it should effect every other note up there.
The G string is fine
A is bad but I can live with that.
This happens regardless of string type
I have tried a few
Pizz is not an issue

I did have a sound post adjustment last year and that helped over all but still there. Maybe try again?

I am thinking maybe a new bridge or perhaps a reshaping. The d seems a tad high

The bass is a solid wood bass, likely pressed rather than carved.

Basically the question is: has any one been able to fix a issue like this?
Or is this a common limitation of the inexpensive top?
If I could fix this one issue I would not have any need to upgrade, because otherwise this bass sound great.

The D being a tad high got me thinking
To go measure. and I have 5mm under the G string but 10mm under the D and A

This is not right

Might be a setup issue. Could try lowering the d and a string heights to be more similar to the g string. I would start at 8mm and then 7mm if needed.

My bass has a pretty nasty wolf from F to Ab. I just have to adjust the bow, contact point, weight and speed are your friends. Just find where these factors combine for maximum clarity. Try every register and fingering and see what you find in different parts of the bass, different fingerings, different parts of the finger. Of course, have someone help you move the post around and see if you can get the most clarity for the setting.

5mm then 10mm on the D seems like a lot. I'm surprised a luthier didn't comment on this.
I'd certainly get that sorted. Is the bridge in the correct position? Otherwise the bridge may need reshaped.

Yeah I am going to call tomorrow and get the bridge reshaped.
It would be awesome if that sorts out the issue.
