Flanger Recommendations

I am currently in the market for a flanger, and have looked around a bit but am unsure of which to get.

Currently, Im considering the following:

Vintage Boss BF-2B
Boss BF-3
EHX Electric Mistress (Stereo or Deluxe)

Which would you guys recomend?

I play a very wide range of music, predominantly play finger style and am really just looking to have a pedal that can be used to accent parts of songs and can generally have a bit of fun with.

flangers as well as any sound is all what you want...for me the best flanger i've ever ysed and still own is a Boss BF-2 Japan Green Label. It's analog, has lots of range, and can do anything from subtle to WHHHOOOOAAA!

a few years ago i was also looking for a flanger and i played all the name brands and everything but i ended up buying the digitech turbo flange stereo flanger. Now i know that you may be a little cautious about digitech, but believe me, its the best flanger i have ever heard. but if you cant find that, i would go with the BF-2B.

I like the flanger mode on my EBS Unichorus, although the switch on mine is a little bit dodgy. It's not the newest TB version though, hopefully those are better.

+1 on the BF-2.
It's far better that the other Boss flangers and retains low end extremely well.

bf-2, i've tried the bf-2b and it was too subtle for my taste. the bf-2 can do subtle AND extreme madness

If price is no object I'd recommend that you try to find a MuTron Pedal Flanger to try. I bought one in the 70's and sold it a few years ago for 3X what I paid for it to a NYC equipment rental company. It has a pedal like a wha-wha that you can use in a similar fashion to conrol the sweep and it a HOOT! Very nice chorus like qualities too. http://www.mu-tron.org/list.html

I think the price here is ridiculous but as I remember I bought mine new in the 70's for $179 which was a ton o' dough back then...... at least to me.

Has anyone tried the Boss BF-3???

I'd say get an analog if you can find one... but I take a digitech one to gigs so in case it gets ripped off or broken my analog flanger isn't lost. Plus, honestly, no one will hear the difference on a loud stage between the digitech and a "nicer" flanger. The digitech is actually pretty good too.

I have a BF-3 and for subtleties it works well for me. I do keep switching between the guitar and bass input.....

+1 on the BF-2 and you can get one very inexpensively if you look around....say $45 or so.....and sell it for the same price or more if you don't like it.

The price does have an upper limit, as I am also looking into getting a Bassballs and a Memory Boy.

I've found an BF-2B for about £50. Is it worth getting or not? I could also get the ''Supreme Mod Kit'' for it. Has anybody had any experiences of it?

And I have just found a Boss BF-2 for about the same price. Which would you guys recomend? BF-2B or the BF-2?

I'll throw out there that MXR will have the Micro Flanger reissue out sometime quite soon. In fact, I think they'll be in stock in a few places within the next couple of weeks. Looks like a good bet if you want a nice, subtle sound. Plus, it is little and like $90.

I've decided to go for the Boss BF-2, mainly becasue I have been offered one on here =P

Thats what I really love about this site; the way that everybody wants to help out a fellow bass player
