Flash Recorders?

I'm in the market for an easy to use, good sounding recorder to capture practices and gigs, and be able to export the occasional file to ProTools.

The ability to use external microphones occasionally would be nice, as that would allow me to use this for location recording using one of the stereo methods on the cheap.

I don't want to use my computer for this - the thought is to keep things as simple as possible. I haven't set a budget, yet.

Help!

I have been using the Edirol model by Roland (I think) for recording practice. I like it. I can record .mp3 and high or low sample-rate .wav files and it connects to the computer through USB. It is easy to use and the built-in stero mic offers a little bit of separation. It has a mic input as well, but I have yet to use that. I paid around 400 for it. It light and way portable. I would definitely recommend it.

using the mp3 160kbps setting.
Edit using Goldwave after dumping onto my PC.

Sample from above setup is below. Drummer's snare is LOUD. Your mileage may vary as we use BOSE for a lot of shows and the stage sound is like a live mix(everyone can hear mostly everything).
