Anyone collect flashlights, or have to use them regularly for work or hobbies?

I have a Maglite AA, a 3 D cell, and a Streamlight Scorpion. I primarily use the Maglite AA for EMS duty. Good size, practically indestructible and fits in the cargo pocket.

When I need a bright light, I use a Surefire G2Z (think that's the model) but I also carry a great little pen light that I picked up from WalMart. That little guy gets used almost every single night that I work. On the occassion that I forget my pen light, the guy I'm usually riding around with has a cool little light that has four different color lenses. I usually set it to red as it doesn't really affect your vision when you turn it off.

Oh and I have an old Mag in my truck but the batteries have been dead for years. I keep it there because it's big, heavy, and would lay someone out if I slapped them in the head with it.

Don't really collect them but I have enough that someone might think I do. :D

Surefire G2 Nitrolon, Streamlight 4AA Luxeon LED(all around most useful), couple Element 3 watt LEDs, Another random 3AAA 1 watt, tiny little 3 watt that runs on a lithium battery that I got in China, 3 watt luxeon headlamp, 3D maglight. I used to have a custom Black Bear flashlight the size of a 3D mag that ran at just under 1000 lumens. That one was awesome. Sold it for a pretty penny to buy some other stuff because I didn't use it all that much.

I'm a nerd. I realize this.

I own several Surefires:

2 E2's (one stays in my overnight bag)
1 6P (in my glove box)
1 M3 (on my AR15)
1 P101 (on a Dawkins rail mount for my Kimber 5" Eclipse)

Two Mags

1 Mag 4 "C" cell in my storage bin in the SUV
1 Mag 2 "AA" in the kitchen drawer.

And one Petzl Headlamp for night fishing.

I know, I'm weird.:D

I have one of those gigantic mag lights that the police use. I think its 5 D cells. When i bought it the guy didnt want to sell it to me cuz he said id use it as a weapon. Im not like some punk kid, im 24 so i thought that was an odd statement and bought it anyway. IN 2 years ive had to replace the batteries once. Very bright as well.

I absolutely LOVE Surefire flashlights.

I use the Nitrolon. It's been my standardized show/gig flashlight. I'm buying a bunch of these for my "roadies" cuz they deserve good flashlights for all the work they do for my band. Especially Big John, cuz he has twenty different flashlights and never uses the same one twice cuz he always finds complaints about them. But he LOVES my flashlight.

These lithium battery flashlights are so damned powerful. This one only uses two batteries at a time, so I'm looking to get a 3-cell version to keep in my road emergency kit.

Bryan - With the limited battery life of the G2's it seems an impractical choice for a light to use at gigs and whatnot. For most of my practical day-to-day usage I use LED lights that are very bright but have longer battery life. My Streamlight 4AA Luxeon is awesome as a bright, practical light. It will last 6 hours or more to the G2's ~1 hour. My Surefire mostly just sits on my bedside table.

BTW, if you're not already aware Amondotech.com's Titanium brand CR123 batteries at $1 a piece are excellent.

I have a 5D police light, a 3D light, a 2AA light, and a 1AAA light all from Mag. Not amazing but it gets the job done.

I also have this LED one with 9 bulbs and take 3 AAA batteries in a cylinder. They last forever in terms of battery life. I bought a set of 4 and I've only had to change the batteries in one of them once (the main one I carry around) and that was recently. Don't remember the brand off hand, I'm sure I could look but I'm too lazy to get my keys.

The brightest light I've ever owned was a hand me down. Its a Delta Powerlight Lantern. It takes those huge batteries that are the size of a can of soup, I can't remember the name of them. 12 Volts? I dunno... Anyways, when he died, we were cleaning out all of his stuff, and me and my cousins were assigned to clean out his boat. We found it there. It eats those huge batteries in no time! The beam of it so bright it can blind someone at more than a mile. I've penetrated huge distances with it, super bright.

...until your flashlight falls apart backstage, on the side of the road while you're trying to fix your motorcycle, or at a campsite that you hiked ten miles to get to. Sure, you can buy several cheap flashlights (and battery sets), but it's nice to know that lugging extra gear isn't the only way to go.

I already have enough expensive hobbies and I've tried hard to not get into flashlights but there is some seriously awesome stuff out there. I've managed to keep myself limited to a TwinTask 3C, a mini MAG which I converted to LEDs a few years ago, and a couple cheap 4D lanterns. But my mother in law just emailed asking my wife what I need for Christmas. Thanks for the timely thread, Vince. :)
