It's not the strings, trust me. The replacement pickup and pre are never going to get you that signature sound.

Is it possible to rewire the pick up in passive mode - pickup into volume control into outputjack?

Has anyone ever done this?

Funny, I always thought DR Stainless Steel sets were completely obnoxious on my SR5 until after a couple of days of playing. I was happier going to other brands and using nickels.

Seymour Duncans are perfectly good pickups but there really is nothing like the original MM pickups in a Stingray. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one parted out but you may be better off in the long run flipping this bass and getting a stock bass.
