Flat wounds question

I play La Bella tape wounds (760N 60-115), not as bright as chrome flats with a present mid range. Many flats players keep strings on forever, i found every 6 months is my sweet spot. I like the thump and depth of flats but i also like some presence, i found tape wounds have the best of characteristics of flats and the presence of round wounds, playing finger style.

What style of music do you mostley play?

I currently have three basses: A Schecter Stiletto Elite-5 (with EMG 40P5X and 40DCX), a Warwick FNA Jazzman 5, and an old SX Jazz (with Duncan QP’s). The Schecter has Low Riders, the Warwick has La Bella LTF’s, and the SX has an ancient set of Chromes. I keep rounds on the Schecter because I keep thinking that someday I might want to do some slap, but I basically never do.

Any one of these Basses would probably be adequate for everything I do, even though the SX only has four strings.

I play CCM-type stuff at church, and old-guy music (blues, Motown, etc. ) in an old-guy band. The La Bella LTF’s on the Warwick work very well for the old guy music. Very thumpy, easily audible - massive mids.

The Chromes are easily 5-10 years old and well settled in. I see no reason to change them. They seem less middy than the La Bellas, but the Warwick is a middy Bass.

Listen to “Sweet Jane” by Mott The Hoople. If that’s not the archetypal flats-with-a-pick sound, I don’t know what is.
