Yes 35th week of 1973 and made by CTS. That speaker would be "period correct" for that cab. Sometimes I get mad at myself for knowing these things when I can't remember important things...

Flatback Ampeg 810 wiring

Yes 35th week of 1973 and made by CTS. That speaker would be "period correct" for that cab. Sometimes I get mad at myself for knowing these things when I can't remember important things...
I can tell you what kind of bass the bassist played in most 60's bands but forget what I ate for breakfast.
Great! I was worried that they were unoriginal at first because the outer rings were painted blue at some point, but I guess that’ll happen over almost 5 decades lol. Looks right at home under the SVT. I think the next step is to add some small casters to the bottom to get it off the floor and make it a little more mobile.

Oh wow, I didn’t know that was an option. I had looked for a used original and figured they would be unobtainable. I’ve bought from Bruce before, I don’t know why his site didn’t show up in my searches. I think that would be better too, I put wheels on mine and they eventually break unless you put big heavy wheels on them and those raise them kind of high to fit in cars etc. I had an original dolly on my first one and haven't seen one since. One good thing about flatbacks is they're made of real 9 ply marine plywood and are lighter than a lot of later SVT cabs but a lot stronger.
Your pic was what made me think of putting small casters on the bottom. I don’t plan on taking this one out of the basement. Actually right after I brought this cab home, my band broke up so I’m not playing with anyone right now. If I were to take an 810 out, I have a road warrior with no tolex on it that I don’t mind beating up.
Sonically, noticeable differences between the Flatback and the 810AV I have it paired with. For my EQ, the AV is crisp and clear while the Flatback is a little more on the warm and wooly side. I have one on each side of the drum set and when you step back into the room, you can’t hear the difference, but up close it’s very clear that they’re two very different cabs. To be honest it makes me want to find a second Flatback to get the full effect of the real thing lol

I've had those wheels on there for twenty years, they are a little too small though and a couple of have broken over the years, I have dragged them all over the place though so I guess they have lasted a good long while. It would be easier to push though with slightly bigger ones. I think mine has the next generation Eminence speakers on them, that could be why mine are clear and not wooly unless I turn one up too loud but as I said I'm going to have to date them, I bought them at different times so they don't match. The tolex was so bad on both I just ripped it off and painted both of them flat black. A lot of people like the CTS speakers best, I like the Eminence better.
If you don't plan to gig the cab, consider buying a furniture dolly for those times when you need to wheel it around.
The first bass cab I used was an old Traynor YC-810 "Big B". It had a caster board attached with two strips of velcro. I personally thought that was cool. Here's an image of the cab (not mine), so you can see the caster board.

I also own a '73, but it's full of old rolas for some reason; I had a thread on here a while back trying to figure out what happened LOL; very jealous of the CTS speakers... : )
