I've always just assumed that flatwounds on a 5 string would sound less than ideal on the low B.
I typically roll with flats on my p-bass because I like the feel and vibe.
This summer most of my gigs are requiring some extra thump so I'm using my Sting Ray 5. I do prefer flats but don't want to waste $ if the rounds are where it's at.
***I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience putting flats on a 5? Can you talk a little about how it effects the sustain and growl of the low B? Did you switch back to rounds or stick to flats? Tapewounds? Is there a particular set/brand that works specifically well for a 5 string?***

I have TI flats on one of my Devon fivers. Sounds good.
