flatwound strings colored ends?

I just bought my first set of flatwound they are the d addario chromes and they have a blue wrapping around the end where the knobs are....my bass which is a fender jazz and before i bought it the guy had flatwound stringson the bass...which tone i really want back they had black colored ends so i was wondering if yall knew who made those?...and name all the colors that the flatwound brands offer thanks -Josh Gibson

P.S. i am talking about the end of the bass string where you would tune the strings by the knobs

D'Addario Chromes, Ernie Ball, Rotosound: Blue

LaBella 760: Red, Orange, Blue depending on the gauge of the set. (Sorry, I don't know about the "Jamerson" set)

Labella 760N nylon tapewounds: Purple

Fender 9050: none

Fender nylon tapewounds: Black (but an older set I have is Red)

GHS Precision flats, Pyramid Golds Violet

Tomastik Infield flats: Red

All the 9050s I've ever used have a pale green wrap at the ball end and nothing at the head end, which is where the OP is interested in.

As the name suggests, nylon tapewounds have a final wrapping of nylon tape instead of steel tape. Also the nylon tape is colored black so the whole string is black (though I've seen other colors of nylon such as red on older strings from different manufacturers.)

The smoothest flats I've ever played are LaBella 760 stainless.

Lakland Joe Osborn flats have Black silk... don't know of any others.
Happen to be my favorite flats, on a US JO (of course...)

Can you give me a link to the labela 760 stainless?...and are they bright?

No they aren't very bright. They're for the old school thump, and they work very well for deep smooth bass lines.

By bright, do you mean trebley or with a crisp high end? People often get them confused.

Also the Jamerson signature set has a pale blue wrap on the end.

I just put a set of Chromes on my Jazz 5 and the nylon wrap is purple. Great B string, by the way!

im colorblind so dismiss this, but to me it looks like

Rotosound = red

fender= none

chromes = blue/purple

I'd suggest trying some different flatwound basses or getting some clips.

I get plenty of treble growl, at least for my taste, on a Fender P strung with LaBella Jamerson signatures.

What kind of bass are you running this through?

So, have you tried the Chromes or not? Or haven't cuz the wrapping isn't the right color? Try them, you might like them!

I only use Chromes, I love them! You can get trebly, but they're better at old school sounds.

maybe i'm confused between trble and the crisp high end....i don't want a tone thats real twangy and scratchy on the ear if you know what i mean....i'm running my fretted fender jazz through a fender 2/10 100 watt combo amp

The bassist from Taste of Honey uses a Jazz with La Bella flatwounds. I don't recall what gauge off hand.

They did boogie oogie oogie, you probably know the song, but give it a listen.

While the string type is obviously an important factor so is the age and how long they have been on. So even if you got new ones wont it take a while before it starts sounding right?
