Flatwound strings on a Yamaha BB435 Bass

I just ordered a Yamaha BB 435 bass and would like to put DR Legend flatwound strings on it. I know that flatwounds strung on a thru body bridge can cause some issues. But the Yamaha has a more gradual string angle coming thru the bridge. The strings don't break over the saddles as sharply. Anyone have their Yamaha BB 435 strung with flats?

Not that it is an identical situation but it is similar. I have a 2004 Precision that I bought from a friend. It was strung with Thomastik Infeld Flats and was strung - String through body which is a more severe angle than you are talking with the Yamaha. This is NOT recommended but the bass has ten years on those flats and shows no problem to date.

Hope this helps.

Right. I've heard of people having winding and breakage issues right off the bat and others having it work for them. I can see possible issues using flats and severe right angles by just the way the strings are made. La Bella does make a special flatwound for thru body basses.
