Flatwounds with a pick?

Hi all,

I have always used roundwound strings but have been interested in trying out flatwounds recently.

I play with a pick though, how do they sound with a pick? Am I better off sticking to roundwounds?

I like the sound of Flats played with a Plectrum.

Check out this vid. It's a comparison of a few brands of flats, both finger style and with a pick. I play the TI's with a pick and love 'em!

Man... All that video did was convince me that I need five different basses strung with different flats.

Man, Carol Kaye is a badass. Every time I get discouraged about playing the bass, I throw on the really long interview Snapshots did with her—"Carol Kaye: Session Legend."

Just check out Bobby Vega. He's a magician on flats, rounds, tapes... Lots of great tones on this video.

different picks for different sounds/attacks ... i have thins , mediums ( and what/how they're made changes the sound ) , felt , rubber ...

This. I keep a rainbow of them on my pick holder all the time. I grab different ones for different songs. I may even use different ones for different acoustics (meaning the room, not the guitar).

For a first timer Chromes would be a good bet.

Has anyone tried the Steve Harris flat wound strings? I'm more fluent using my fingers, but trying to use a pick as well. Thinking about putting these strings on my Mendel model precision bass. Thanks!
