Thanks for the link! I love hearing Flea's perspective - he seems like a real one.
IME the adage "never meet one's heroes" is usually true, but this brief glimpse of Flea happily leads me to believe he'd constitute a welcome exception to the rule. I just ordered that Jeff Parker vinyl.....
What’s that supposed to mean? In spite of whatever rowdy public persona the band has had over the years, he, as an individual, has represented himself as a stand-up person.
Yeah, that was a very curious post. Flea is probably one of, if not the most influential bass player in the last what, 30 or 40 years? I can't really think of anyone else as popular among new bass players during that era. Obviously popularity isn't everything, but Flea has earned that in my opinion by being super creative and being a great bass player. And musician in general, clearly by his album list he still holds playing trumpet in high regard too. I haven't heard much of his new solo album but from what I have heard it sounds great and super inspiring (for me at least).
I actually agree with you.... His involvement with the LA school system is very positive...

They definitely shouldn't have worn the socks, that would have been better, right? I don't know how I forget about the infamous sock incident where they forgot to take them off before the show. Everyone knows that if you wear a sock you have no soul, it's so basic.
I had heard musicians talk about the Bulgarian choir recording that Flea mentions (it came out in the early 1960s). Graham Nash and David Crosby said it changed their whole outlook on harmonizing. I finally bought it when It was reissued on CD and it’s was even better than I was expecting. I can’t understand a word of what is being sung but that’s a gift, I can just listen to how the music feels. Nowadays I still buy a lot of music from places in the world I’ve never been and know nothing about which is one reason I stopped listening to mainstream pop music, it simply can’t compare to the the journeys this other music takes me on.

That sounds so cool, I need to listen again with headphones. Definitely think I’ve heard it sampled before (VAST?), so it’s great to hear the original recording for more context. Music is awesome.
What a cool person and fantastic array of picks. Sounds like he listens to, explores, and finds inspiration in everything.
I have three of his picks, and need to pickup two of the others. If you can't find some of those, Band camp might have them, such a good resource for great music.
