Back in the day people would use Micro Amps as a buffer for when you have too many effects. Nowadays I guess effects are built less noisy so it's used more for clean boost.

A very quick clearing of the whole matter. I don't pretend being an expert when it comes to Flea's gear, but I've read a lot of content on his rig, saw many pictures, read many interviews and watched a lot of videos
Basically :
1983-1989 : almost no effect used, except a Boss FT-2 Dynamic Filter, both in the studio and on stage.
1990-1991 : A Mu-Tron III with dying batteries for Sir Psycho Sexy and probably a DOD FX 25 on The Power Of Equality. Little effects were used during live shows, except for a MXR Micro-Amp and Boss FT-2. The DOD FX 25 appears only in his instructional video, he never used it live.
1992-1993 : Proco RAT, Boss FT-2, and probably a MXR Micro-Amp.
1995-1996 : For Coffee Shop, Flea wanted originally to use the EHX Bass Balls, but somehow the pedal didn't work right during the recording of the track, so he used his good old Boss FT-2. The Shallow Be Thy Game intro is described as a mix of various envelop filters. Live, he added many effects. The Body Parts book, which is a kind of pictures collection and touring diary of that time, shows pretty nice shots of his pedal board. That's what we can see : Proco RAT, Boss ODB-3, Boss FT-2, Boss AW-2 and MXR Micro Amp.
1998 : not so many shows, but pictures display EHX Q-Tron, MXR Micro-Amp and Boss ODB-3. This is the classic standard configuration Flea still uses today, ten years after.
1999-2000 : EHX Q-Tron, MXR Micro-Amp, Boss ODB-3 and Dunlop Cry Baby 105Q. This is the picture posted a few posts back. For the Around The World recording, Flea used a crank Marshall head to achieve this very sick and noisy tone. The Boss ODB-3 is used to reproduce it live.
2001-2005 : EHX Q-Tron, MXR Micro-Amp and Boss ODB-3
2006 : EHX Q-Tron, MXR Micro-Amp and Boss ODB-3. A EHX Big Muff was added for the spring/summer tours, but was quickly removed. I am sure there was another pedal in his board at that time, but I never managed to figure it out. I remember it was similar to a Line-6 FM 4, John Frusciante uses one, so Flea may have wanted to try one also.
2007 : EHX Q-Tron, MXR Micro-Amp and 2x Boss ODB-3 with different settings.
That's about it![]()
Does he tour with a Flea Bass (not the Modulus)
I'm sure I've seen pics of his board with an EHX Bassballs on it
no offence Bassmike but it seems like on this forum all you care about is flea's gear and FX25's. for that last month that is all i have seen you post. i mean you dug this old thread out from 2 years agos and you ask if there is any up dates! flea has probably played live less than a dozen times with the chilis in the last 2 years. i like my FX25 and it's a good pedal and fare enough you want to learn more, your interested but there isn't much to learn, there isn't alot to the old FX25's. don't take this personally, i'm just wondering if there is anything else that you are interested in?
None taken. It just comes in waves. You don't have to agree with it and don't have to react to it if you don't like it. Most people simply ignore the threads they don't like.
For the record: my musical interests are rather broad. Don't really care to discuss them on this forum.
ohh beileve me i don't care. im just interested thats all.

how can someone be interested in something they dont care about?![]()
