Floor monitors recommendation

We are a 6 member classic rock band ranging in ages 23 - 47. 2 guitars, male and female singer, drummer, bass, keys. We tend to be pretty loud. Usually play small clubs 150-350 people.

I am extremely happy with our PA but our monitors suck. 3 different brands and all 6 are very inefficient. We just run vocals and lead guitar in monitors.

1. how many mixes do you have? (i'll take my own mix on a crappy box vs. a shared mix on a good box any day.)

2. what are you powering them with? (more power is almost better than better monitors.)

3. why in the world are you running lead guitar into the monitors?

Ooops... Yes, I mean Radian. And yes, I´m aware of the EAW buy-out. Another slip of mind there...

I once had the chance to compare models of the same cab (the original Radian, The newer Radian w/ neo driver, and the EAW-made model), and while they all sounded pretty similar (would have no problems co-existing on the same stage), the Radian-made ones had slightly better sound. So calling the original "crap" would be a mistake in my books. Nothing wrong with either, really... The newer ones are obviously slightly lighter (I expected more of a difference).

But my recommendation stands. Great sounding monitors that need minimal EQ for feedback-control, cut through very well and their directivity is above most.

They require a powerful amp, though...

Yeah, well, the microwedge is a great box, but for you, I think they may be a tad out of your range. They require a processor, and about 1K watt per mix.
So if you get yourself 6 microwedges, a 4X8 processor(optional for passive mode), 3 1K poweramps (assuming 3 passive mixes) or say 3 macrotech 36X12's,(active/bi-amp mode) and 3 graphs, get ready to lay down about 20K USD.
Hell the boxes alone will run your 12K.
Heres a good place to look at some decent monitors. It will give you a general idea of what you are looking at to replace an entire monitor system.
