Focusrite not working with amp sim and sound issue

I got my focusrite solo today and set it up. The jazz bass sounds great straight through playing with YouTube. I have windows 8.1 and a couple of issues I hope someone can help me with.

1. I have to disable my windows speakers for the sound, headphones, to work on focusrite. I cant find where to make them both, windows speakers and focusrite, at the same time.

2. I downloaded a couple free amp sims and none work with focusrite. I can hear it, GK amplitude le, being turned on and off on my laptop speakers there is no sound difference in the headphones. I am not using pro tools daw or the other one they give you (I forget the name). Is that the issue?

I am really lost. I searched online and got nothing.

You can't, and that is normal. I don't know about Apple computers but with Windows you can only have one sound output active at a time.

The Focusrite is hardware, the amp sims "live" in software. Install which ever free DAW came with your Focusrite, and then you have to install any plugins software into your DAW. Yes, this can be a bit overwhelming if you're new to all this. YouTube is a great resource for tutorials on getting started.

Here's one from Focusrite specifically covering the installation of their ProTools First software:


Avid software is mighty proud of their ProTools recording software, so the software installation is rather involved because Avid works very hard to keep you from giving any free copies of their software away.

Thank you very much. That explains a lot.

Edit: I haven't dl'd any of the media except ableton. I am unsure if I can dl both. There is other stuff but after my wasted time trying to fix something that can't be fix, I shut it down, after playing some Whipping Post, of course.

So I figured it out. I had to go in to the amp sims and change the sound settings to focusrite asio. Now they work in headphones with the focusrite.

I thought about that all night and finally found a video that skimmed over that part.
