fodera alteratives?

fender shape mahogany body, AAA quilted maple top, and a fancy rosewood neck
(and 24 fret neck.)

technically, I am really just looking for a company to do this. any suggestions of luthiers/small builders who do this? sadowsky probably do, but i would like to see what other companies do that, hopefully at less than the fodera NYC, which is pretty close to what I want (but not exactly!!!).

To the OP, if you can pay a visit the the upcoming 2013 winter NAMM show in Aneheim Cali. There you will have the opportunity to play pretty much every bass you have heard of and many many more.

.

Yeah, do this! You are looking to spend a substantial sum of money, a day at NAMM is a very good way to get your hands on as many different hi-end basses as possible.

Ray can build you what you want! Ever since I got my first R Bass I have been selling and trading all my other gear to get my hands on more.

Here is Ray's # incase you want to call him for an quote 787-390-9333.

Here are a few pics of one similar to what you are looking for and also a few other's of his work.

That Rbass looks mighty nice! here is a new edition of my list of potential basses:

the Rbass shown above
Pedulla rapture
sadowsky with mahogany+quilted maple

please note that the chance of me getting a Fodera have become very slim, since there is not a bass in the standard series that has 2 J pickups. So all in all, this thread has been super helpful in figuring out my possible next bass, as I did not want to splash the money on a Fodera that was not exactly perfect.

thanks!

I have been playing for a very long time and have tried most all that is out there. I have to say that "for me" I have never had a Bass as good in tone and playability then my Fodera NYC's.

The Fodera NYC's are very nice, but since they are no longer being made, I doubt that I will ever see one with the specs I want, especially not a mahogany body. But if they were still being made, I would love in mahogany and 5A quilted maple!

Nice, but somewhat "wannabe" I think.:)

Hey awesomesawyer, if you don't mind neck thrus, give Wyn Guitars a look. He usually uses Nordy fat stacks, but I doubt he would have any qualms with using a set of big singles. The man does some amazing woodwork, and his body shape is sort of a streamlined take on the fender style.
