Hi,

With a Mahogany body I like to balance it with a harder wood then Chestnut. Maple works really well with Mahogany. Many of the so-called "golden era" Fodera's used that combo and it was pretty magical.

Maple would be my preference. Ash would probably be next.

BTW - none of this is scientific at all. This is all from my experience. I've had so many Fodera's over the years, I've learned what I like. Your tastes may not be the same.

I don't remember what color I decided on

I'm pretty excited. Should be pretty soon now.

I don't know. I do feel like the string breaks in faster and it seems logical to not make the fattest of the 6 strings have to make lots of sharp bends and turns in a small space. That said, I'm not going to get into another discussion about the real effects of the extended B string. Until someone does some actual research on it and produces some actual data, it's a moot point. Everybody is right and everybody is wrong...whatever. I don't want to be falsely accused of being a heretic again :)

My current bass has an extended B for one reason....because we wanted to do a flat headstock with string lengths past the nut on the E and A and D that were the same as a J bass's E and A and D. So that pretty much relegated the B to the far end of the headstock. All the other talk about "tighter B" or whatever came from other people. Still the notion that it does nothing is as unproven as the notion that it does something.

AS for ugly, I don't particularly like the standard extended B headstock, but mine isn't like that, and the one on the new bass will be like the one I have now.
