Well there aren't any "membership numbers" like there are at other "clubs" on talkbass. The Fodera club is really just a chat room for folks who have them, folks who like them, etc, etc. I for one lurked in this forum for about a year or so before I took the plunge. Incidently, like you I couldn't get my hands on one physically before I jumped in, I just went for it. Very glad I did.

It's so hard to express the experience you have when you get your first Fodera - or hold one for the first time. At the risk of sounding goofy its almost magical.

When I got my Ying Yang Deluxe, the first thing that struck me was just the sheer artistic value of the instrument. I was literally in awe of the thing when I opened the case. I think I just held it in my hands flipping it around for about 20 minutes before I even played it. The lines, the flow, the workmanship, the physical beauty. Beyond being an instrument, these things are also sculptures. Works of art in their own right.

In terms of the feel - I have had many great basses, but nothing comes close IMO. The simplest way I know how to explain it is that the fretboard and the strings feel almost the same on the 20th fret as it does on the 5th. You don't get that on other basses that I've had. All up and down the fretboard the thing plays like butter.

Others have said that Foderas allow their playing to go places that they couldn't (or didn't try to ) achieve with other basses. That is certainly true for me. I am being quite serious when I say that within a month or so of having my Fodera - I was playing things that I simply didn't even try to do with previous basses. There's something about the feel and sheer playability of these basses that just pulls you in deeper and deeper. It's almost like the bass itself just disappears. You're never fighting it. Never.

So I'm sorry if that all sounds like fanboy gushing but that's my honest experience. I just haven't played anything that compares to my (now 2) Foderas. They are in a different league and they have made me a fundamentally better player.

Great now my GAS just went nuclear!!!! did you have to explain it so beautifully talk about waving a steak at a starving dog :) I'm looking right now for a used one I have got to have one of these what you explained is exactly what I want to feel when I get one

There are three main owners...Joey, Vinny and me. Then there are 6 smaller percentage owners.

The original owners (Joey, Vinny and a much smaller passive partner) still own more than 50% and if you added me to the three of them, we collectively own over 75%.

I'd rather not go into more detail than that...

Depending on how the bass goes together, the time of year it was completed and where you live, substantial adjustments to the truss rod (including potentially needing to flip the truss rod are possible) may be necessary...especially in the first couple of months of an instrument's life.

In general, 90% of our basses are "born" with the truss rods in the "normal" position and the remaining 10% have them in the "upside" down position.

Honestly, the Dealer should have done a final check out and set up for you right before shipping...that said, if the weather is very different between where it was shipped from and where you live, truss rod adjustments will likely be necessary.

I read that, that's why I noticed it was in the reversed position!! Do all new basses come with the truss rod in the reversed position? The bass came from club bass and they said they never even touched it, they just inspected it.....

the other great about getting one is that spending all that money guilts you into practicing more ;-)

that seems to have helped with my playing.
