Have never seen AJ live (a definite bucket list for me) but that is the best/clearest sounding clip i've heard from him...just wow!

Interesting.. I was thinking the same thing. Could have a lot to do with halls and pa etc though.
I saw him live back in the early 80's in NY with Michel Camilo in a small club in NY It was truly an amazing experience. The first time I had ever seen or heard a 6 string. Almost crapped my pants when I heard that low string.. LOL

Yes, I was referring to "My Favorite Django", which was recorded in January 1995. My copy has no photo of Anthony Jackson. I inferred from the recording date, relative to when he received #10, that it was probably #9 on the album but I don't know that for a fact - it's just a guess...

WRT his live sound: I saw him at 55 Bar in 2005 playing #10 through his Meyers rig - he sounded awesome. I was about 15' away...

Actually I don't think it's anything to do with the hall. Saw Marcus Miller back in the same hall 5 years ago and his sound was awesome. It's either amp issues or that that old bass just cut through better. I'm guessing the older bass had the Bartolini pickup and a maple or chestnut top. Any other differences? Did the older bass have an ash body? Brazilian rosewood or ebony fingerboard? Anyone knows more details? The sound he got in that video was amazing.

I should say that that solo the new contrabass sounded great, like a bass Spanish guitar, but Hiromi's left hand just buried it in the mix.

Nice! I always like 6 string monarchs, and you don't see them very often. This one has Matt Garrison woods (walnut, ash neck, ebony). I really want to hear this bass... Scratch that, I really want to play this bass,... Scratch that, I really want this bass,..

Nah, cause the Duncan's hadn't been made at that point. Must have been put in later. Seems to me, the solid pole on the C came within a year of them being made.

I've actually switched my pair of 5'ers on order to Monarchs (rather than Imperial), chambered walnut body, ebony fb, ash neck on the fretless, maple on the fretted. Still leaning towards staying with neck-through in which case I'll have walnut tone block instead. Basically the same spec as my YYD except for the neck joint. I'm going to try and get down to BSD to play the trio of Monarchs to make a final decision between neck-through and dovetail (my YYD is dovetail).

Nice specs!

I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts if you make it to BSD to compare those neck joints.
