So I mentioned that I was having a friend build me custom wooden pickup covers to replace the plastic ones that came on my imperial 5.just got the bass back today and I'm more than impressed. I decided to remove the Birdseye maple ramp though as I realized I prefer the feel without it. Damn I love this bass.

NEW!

That's a pretty impressive feat when the routes aren't made larger. Plastic covers have a very thin wall. Looks great...congrats.

Thanks! They were made larger and the EMG shaped Duncans were replaced with the normal sized Fodera/Duncans. You're right, the plastic covers are extremely thin and he would have had to route it anyway so I figured I might as well just throw the normal sized pups in there.

A spec question:
How wide are necks at the nut of 4 string foderas?
My guess is that it varies, so what would be the range from widest so far to narrowest?

Same question for 5 string basses.

Thanks!

This bass used to be mine. I miss it a lot...
It's the most comfortable bass I owned, and the bridge pickup alone sounds awesome...

Enjoy it!! :bassist:

For the 19.0mm bridge spaced instruments,

On the 4-string...

1 17/32"

On the 5-string...

1 27/32"

When we drop to 17.5mm spacing we only drop the nut by about 1/32". Also, as every neck is hand shaped and sanded, there definitely is some variability, but you get the idea.

We have also made the wider and narrower than the above fairly frequently based on customer request. That said, we generally don't like to go below 1 16/32" for the 4's and 1 25/32" for the fives...

Regards,

J
