Yes, it can be done, but its a tricky procedure to pull off without damaging the pickups. It is the kind of thing best left to us or a qualified repair shop.

Thanks for this Jason, but is there a way of cleaning rust on poles from sweating? Of course if rust started to appear.

I do clean the bass after and before (sometimes even during) the gig.

No, actually that is the way we built them back in 1983. That is the back of the VW Monarch Limited Edition. You can read more about this instrument here:

Sadly, neither Vic nor I had the privilege.

Well that's one great picture you have posted. Thanks for the photo!

Sure. The major differences between the first Hybrid and AJ's will be that AJ's instrument will be 1" narrower, have an Ebony FB (instead of Brazilian RW) and a Koa top and back (rather than Pommele Sapele).

Other than the Hybrid construction and the woods mentioned above, all other specs will be as per AJ's current Presentation.

Regards,

J

Jason,

That is just beautiful. What species of Ebony will the fingerboard be?

I can't wait to see the Koa you use for AJ's instrument. There have been some outstanding Koa tops on some of your recent basses. I bet this set (top and back) is going to be incredible.

Played my first gig with my Emperor 5 Standard today. All I can say is wow! What a fantastic instrument.

Even on a classic rock cover band gig, the E5S just killed. Blues, country, heavier stuff, funk... It sounded great for it all.

My band is used to me showing up at a gig with a new bass every week, but the entire band commented on how great my tone was today. "Best you have ever sounded" was the general consensus.

I have done lot of bass, amp and cabinet buying and selling over the years, but I think I finally found "my tone".... Fodera -> Jule Monique -> Bergantino. :hyper:

Remember that we picked the top for the bass purely based on tone. Yes, it is a beautiful piece, but it is not the best looking pieces of Koa in the shop right now by any means...however, its tap tone is just what we need for the overall instrument.

That is awesome and is everything that we hope for when we set out to build an instrument!

Enjoy!!!

ImageUploadedByTalkBass1360149743.557477.jpg great photo of the YYS in action at the Sitka Jazz Fest in AK. This was taken during "time stands still" by janek gwizdala, we wrote up an arrangement for our big band, it was a big hit, the crowd really enjoyed it.

Hi

I have an Imperial II built in 2010 with a Pope preamp.

I wanted to know when I use the coil tap switch, the dual coil is split in 2 single coils or spilt on one (back or front) ?

Thanks, I'm lost. :rollno:

Unless you have some custom wiring the switch toggles between sc and Hb modes. In sc mode the outer two coils are used (typically fender spacing).
