Fodera Club Part XXVII

Great day for a string change!

My Imperial 5 had been wearing an old set of Fodera Nickel 40-120's since before the new DR string partnership. I cleaned up the fretboard, oiled it, and restrung with DRxFodera 40-120's. They sound awesome! The old Fodera strings were perfect on this bass, especially for melodic playing and soloing, but could be a little too polite in a mix IMO. I can see these punching through in a livelier and more authoritative way, even if they don't feel as lightning fast and balanced under the fingers. Maybe my opinion will change as I get more used to them. Either way, great strings!

My only real issue I ran into was the end of the wind on the low B was a bit sloppy and it couldn't slide into the smaller hole on the Fodera bridge. I have it sort of wedged in for now, and it's holding tension so I'll be fine.

As for the bass for those curious- 2009 NAMM Imperial Elite with a Garrison lower horn and control layout. Full sized imperial body otherwise, which is my preference. Ebony board, walnut body wings, ash neck and tone block, buckeye top, 34 inch scale, Duncan's and Pope. It's insane. Damian Coccio (amazing player! Give him a YouTube follow)was the original owner and I bought it from him in 2012 I think.

Very nice! Unfortunate quality control on the B string, though.

I get you. I have a home studio for work purposes and I still am not big on recording myself. The hardest part for me is clicking "upload" to the internet.
I'd love to hear your Fodera though. I'll be looking forward to it.

I finalized the fretboard for my upcoming Mini MG6. I was deciding between ebony, Indian rosewood, Amazon rosewood, or Brazilian rosewood. I ended up going with Brazilian. Specifically, the piece on the left in the picture below. I think the coloring and grain will work perfectly with the top and neck I have picked out. All of the colors mix really well. I'll attach a picture of the top and neck for those who haven't seen it yet. It's the neck blank in the middle which is red oak.

So just noticed this watching the King of the Hill revival on Hulu. Pretty sure the bass player in this scene is playing a "Fodera." Dragonfly instead of the butterfly. Clear Monarch shape. Classic headstock. Yin Yang design on the top ... and for the capper ... the clear Monarch pre layout, which is unmistakeable.

Which makes me wonder, what bass aficionado animated this?

Wow!! Mini MG6 with a buckeye top and Brazilian board! Congrats! What scale is the mini? I played two mini MG's when I visited the shop in 2023 but they were ebony boards and a standard solid color body.

Thanks, bud. It'll be 31" with 24 frets and 16.5mm spacing. Should be a killer!

I thought they were about out of Brazilian Rosewood? Was there a premium for it?
