That neck looks paper thin. What a nice looking bass. I'm partial to the classic looking models.
When I was planning to build my first bass, I was aiming to make my "main" working bass- the one that could do everything and had five strings. I, too, could probably accomplish everything I wanted on a Standard, except with a hand issue at the time, I needed to get the 17.5mm string spacing option- only available as a custom. That was the single decision that pushed me in that direction. The other upgrades that I have are largely cosmetic, and I did weird things with my neck, too. Still, if you can make 19mm work, you'll be incredibly happy with a Standard. It does all the same things, just as good as a custom.

I was considering doing that with my Emperor 5 Standard, too, actually. I think it was Wilkins that I got a quote from, and it was pretty reasonable. I'm still considering getting a tort guard for my custom--I like the pearloid, but I also think a tort one would be a good look for it, too.
That's awesome. At first I thought I'd miss not having the dual coils but there are so many good tones in the singles that it's already more than enough. And you probably can verify but single coils on their own sound a little different than single coil mode on duals.
I didn't wait 24 hours more like twelve. My reasoning was I live in south it was early March and the temperature in Brooklyn and Tennessee happened to be mild. If you live somewhere that's frigid cold I would follow the suggested acclimation time. Please post pics when you are able!
Do you favor one of these over ht either , and if so, why? Im curious why you didn't go dual coils on the custom ? Does the custom sound different that standard in single coil mode? Maybe one is 60's, the other is 70's? Different woods? Do tell please.
You could get the standard yin yang 5 in 17.5mm, I have one. I don't know if you still can. You might want to check and see. Currently I have two customs and the yin yang standard, and they all sound different, but good, and are 17.5 mm and 5 strings. The neck profiles are all a little different. One is slim/fast the other two are pretty close. I find with the 17.5 spacing it isn't that big of a difference or adjustment in feel to me.
