Yeah, he's got the Garrison thing going on for sure. He'll find his voice. He's too young to play less and say more right now. I listened to the older stuff that Matt was on a few weeks ago and he's come a long way. You just inevitably play with better judgement as you get older.

anything you can recommend listening to of his. this story reminds me a bit of the current zawinul syndicate bassist linley marthe. i read in an interview with zawinul where he went on and on about this guy and how nobody could touch him. then i caught the show and i thought the guy was total b.s. he was super fast but didnt play any music or lines. everyone else in the crowd was impressed but i much preferred bona.

Patience is harder to acquire and more is a Fodera. I waited 10 months for mine but believe me, you never regret the lost time. I slept with my bass every night.... This one was one of the first basses made. They brought Ken Smith pickups and electronics but the power of Fodera.

This is getting a little off-topic but I'll just add that Janek's solo album - that's he's literally just finished definitely shows he's got some depth to his talents on bass - he takes a more supportive role and there's only about three actual bass solos on the album (which in the main are very cool) - but I think maturity couts for so much these days, I can just <b>hear</b> the difference between someone which huge chops - and someone who has huge <b>musical</b> chops as well as technical prowess - his solo album is called 'Mystery To Me' - it's a good summation of where his playing is right now, I like the guy so I wanna be positive about his skills...

I just got the pic on Saturday. Before that, I'd pretty much been expecting a March time frame. Maybe February if I were really lucky.

you guys are pretty freakin ruthless in here huh? I think i'll keep my "EGO" as someone put it, it's just about the only thing that will keep you alive in a place like New York City. Although I think the EGO I'm talking about and the previous poster are two very different things.

I also don't think anyone "is a patch on Willis", he's his own man and plays just the way he has done for the past 20. Totally unique. very nice to be able to say that about someone. I do wish people wouldn't get so hung up on the bass thing though. There's something that exists in music that is so much more important than any of us. Music has nothing to do with the instrument you play, not in it's most pure form. Garrison this, Gwizdala that, Willis the other thing, it's not about bass. It's about the soul of the person from whom the music is coming from. Why is it that you never read too many posts about that side of things........?

and about the Fodera, best thing I ever did!

and the reason it was so pricey was to do with the amount of custom work I had done to it. I had buck eyed burl facings, and all kinds of work done to it that is far from standard. Took somewhere around a year to complete and that was on a rush. They're pretty backed up with orders, taking off like crazy across the world. And very nice cats down there too.
