Fool Proof Cover Band Dance Songs

Have not seen any Neil Young. I'm in a conservative area of UK and we do well with Rockin In The Free World played with plenty of distortion and volume. Doesn't appeal to all but for some it is the best track of the night - at least that's what they tell me..

I disagree with the entire premise of the thread. It is all regional and audience dependent. From the OP there might have been one song played in my small corner of the world

A girl at one of our shows told me once "Dont play any slow songs in the first two sets. Guys aren't drunk enough yet to ask us to dance til the third of fourth set!"

Those are just a few off the top of my head...

wHalf of these songs listed are 8 piece horn band songs with keys! Why don't we just list a bunch of P funk, Allman Brothers and Greatful Dead stuff? I mean, if we're going big, let's go big.

I would like to see YouTube videos of some of these songs being done by a trio....and not just pulling it off....but getn it done.

We did a show Friday night - our debut, and there had been a lot of discussion about song choices.

Myself and the drummer favoured doing a lot more stuff aimed at getting people to dance but the guitarist wasn't really that interested, being more a Hendrix-type lead player.
Anyway, some that went down especially well and got people moving were Heard It Through The Grapevine (closer to CCR's version), Gloria(Van Morrison), You Really Got Me (Kinks) and Mony Mony.

Happily (in one sense) we were proved right about the more guitar-solo-centered songs not going down so well, and the guitarist realises now we are, in fact, there to give the crowd a good time.

I hate to admit it, because it's not my style of music, but a lot of the modern dance stuff seems to work for us in a huge way: Uptown Funk, Cake by the Ocean, Raise Your Glass, Can't Stop the Feeling. And yeah, the older funk: September, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Brick House etc etc....like I said, not my style of music, but people seem to really like them.

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet:

Mony Mony - Billy Idol

My band used to slay with that song. Also, in the 80s, just about every cover band in the city did Queen - Dragon Attack though I don't know how well it would go over today. Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love would be a doorbuster for sure, and don't forget about Stray Cats and Kenny Loggins.
