Double Bass For DB players who also play electic, flats or rounds?

Also, no epoxy on fingerboards, all stings to wood.

But my slab, a Fender J, has GHS boomers, rounds. My favorite slab ever still remains my first love from high school, a red late-50's P with flats. That one's still the **** for me.

Mostly, I prefer roundwounds on the slab whether it be a lakland 5, fretless with CA coating or on old jazz bass, though i have used chromes and !/2 wounds on the old jazz bass for recording sessions. Live, if I'm dounbling I enjoy the difference between the trad upright sound witth flats and a the more "spanky" sound of roundwounds. What is Magic on the old jazz bass are nickle round wound strings (d'Addario XLs) that are more than a year old. I play them until they start to rust. Best of both worlds, if you ask me.

I have DR HiBeams on my 5-string Warwick that are about 4 years old. They get a very dub sound which I dig. Billl Laswell uses ancient string to get the tone that he does.

Thomasik Jazz flats on the Fender A/E fretless, LaBella flats on the fretted P-Bass. I like that old school sound.

I like D'Addario Half Rounds on my '73 Fender Jazz and my '94 Music Man Sterling. They're versatile and the best of both worlds.

TI Jazz Flats on the electric bass guitars (fretted and fretless) and TI Spiracore Mediums on the real bass. I like the sound and they last forever. With two in college I can't be spending money on strings.
