For someone playing jazz...

I've been using a Geddy Jbass but can never tame it to the tone I want and have enough cash to invest in a bass better suited to jazz and blues. I've narrowed it down to the following Jbasses; Marcus Miller and Roadworn J.

Is one better suited to jazz/blues? A better investment for another reason? Moreover, anyone want to give some feedback in support of either bass?

My understanding is that the miller might be a little less what you're looking for because of the pre-amp. Thus, i might propose that your are looking at mostly the roadworn, or and AmStd if you can up the budget. Try all three, if you can.

Well, I would be willing to consider an American std. if that really affects the results of my question.

Also, fyi: I would run the miller passive at all times if that also affects the results.
