A Remark You Made - I've heard lots of people play that song. Not just bass, either. It is a gorgeous song. I personally feel that 50 years from now Jaco will be better remembered for his pen than his playing. He really wrote some incredible timeless music.

Jaco owns it with his playing but it's a Zawinul composition.😎

Ah, I did not know that. Thanks for the correction. But also not surprising - that guy could pen a tune or 50! I love Zawinul.

He had me from the start with Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. And I really love Birdland too, so catchy, so cool. And Mr. Gone, what a cool song. So yeah totally checks out that I love A Remark You Made.

I love Jaco. I was deeply influenced by him in my late teens/ early twenties. I had all his albums including the bootlegged ones, his instructional videos on VHS and his book. One can argue the bass has come a long way but he was one of the pioneers that made bass more than just a background instrument. I will always have a deep love and respect for him as a bassist.

I’m never sure when these types of threads get created if it’s a passive aggressive, reverse psychology way of getting people to actually bash the artist more, but pretending you’re trying to win people over…. did I just define trolling?

I love Jaco, and for the people that don’t, I’m sure they like stuff that I think is absolutely atrocious….

It's a great video, but it's definitely past his prime. I saw him with Weather Report in 1978, which was amazing, and the following summer with Joni Mitchell, which was my favorite Jaco experience. Unlike Shadows and Light, it wasn't all frantic and coked out but very gentle and transcendent. He wasn't trying to show off. I wish there was a video and/or good recording of that night at the Providence Civic Center.

If Jaco was an anonymous session player on this cut he'd probably be playing less notes, and not be a featured soloist. But he's clearly being encouraged to do this thing, it's what they are literally paying him to do, so he does it.

That's all good but we don't have to like it. I do like other stuff he's done though.
