Both vehicles have similar safety systems...brake assist, etc. (minus the camera...but really, do you need that in a sedan?). Luxury...this is where they separate. The G35 is a sports sedan. It will beat the Lexus to 60 mph by almost 2 seconds. That is a massive performance gap. My preference for autos will always lean more towards the performance end. I'll toss voice-activated anything, the paddle shifter, and the extra cog for the 2 seconds and bank the extra grand (which I would then use for a less restrictive intake and pick up even more time). And it could be a 10 year old design.

Your preference is for bells, whistles, and the newest style. That's your thing. Nothing wrong with it. I guess my point is that (to me) the Lexus is superior in things that I don't care about or need. That's my opinion.

<edit> The GS 300 AWD is still slower that the G35x. Sorry. Mr. Johnson, you are my automotive hero of expendable income. You are also only the second person I know who has purchased the BMW Z coupe. The first still owns his and loves it.

Thanks, Mike. I'm actually at a BMW specialist getting a pre purchase inspection as I type this;)

This is a pretty amazing deal... looks great, drives great and it's $11,500. That price has me a bit apprehensive, that's why I'm getting a second opinion (the other shop didn't specialize in BMWs). (Almost?) too good to be true.

That means for $25k I get the Z3 Coupe AND the 99 Miata LS and 77 Fiat 124 Spider convertibles. Or the 2003 AWD Element and two convertibles for well under $35k.

As a former owner of both a Lexus and an Infiniti...GO FOR THE FIN!!!
What was posted earlier was true. Infiniti's suffer from marketing, not from any other standpoint. My '98 Q45 has been the benchmark for all other luxury vehicles I have either owned, driven, or ridden in. For the price, Infiniti's always win. I have never had the combination of power, luxury, handling, comfort, RELIABILITY (200,000+miles no tune up!), While the Lexus is a nice car line, they don't quite match the marketing. Sure, it is more popular to drive a Lexus, model for model, they do not match up!

When the Lexus line was launched it's goal was to reach those who had Mercedes Benz money, but wanted NOT to seem like they were flaunting it. They were meant to be just what they are, slightly upscaled Toyotas. Infinity made no bones about who they were, and what there goals were, to serve as a Japanese alternative to Mercedes Benz. To do so they focused on the downsides of the MB (not sporty in the sedans, heavy, too bulky) and ended up with a product more comperable to it's competative goal than the marketplace was ready for. By sharing platforms with existing Nissan lines this enabled the company to sell their product at a dramatic price reduction.

Jazzin, I don't see too many of the high-zootin' imports (Lexus, Infinit, BMW, 'Benz etc...) coming into the shop (most owners go back to the dealers for work, which is fine with me).

Based on the ones I've seen (and knowing who the parent companys of each are, and their reputations), I'd take a Lexus over an Infiniti any day of the year.

I haven&#8217;t seen sedan look but the coupe looks awesome... and glass roof is cool too :)

BTW I would also consider BMW 325xi also all wheel drive and cost less then Lexus. It&#8217;s faster and i think better performance over all (control wise and everything) then lexus and gets same miles per gallon. It&#8217;s also i6 which is far nicer engine then v6 imo.

330xi is more expensive but its also faster and again same mileage...

In the end if i were you i would go to every dealer and test drive each car... see which one handles better for your type of driving then go from there... for me if i was to get a sedan it would be either 330xi/325xi or g35.

actually I don't know much about cars, let alone these cars but I think some of us are bypassing the fact that this car isn't for someone who will use all it's performance. Unless Jazzin's mother is a speedfreak she probably won't notice a big performance drop between the two. So I don't think you can count performance in the equation, but well Jazzin's the only one who knows her.

Try to get her in both cars, the few cars I've driven are ranked by "feel" more than performance, size, gadgets, etc. so that's what I'd buy a car on.

oh and we don't have no infinity's in the netherlands..soo can't ocmment on even the slightest things, the lexus' o have a good rep here

Im talking about adding in the luxury/premium package, but without the navigation. Then the BMW and the Audi are expensive.

Not completely... I mean sometimes faster acceleration is safety as well... A lot of times it’s not 0-60 but 60 to 80... For example if someone is about to crash into you a lot of times breaking is too late and all you can do is speed up to avoid a collision.
