For those who need a laugh!

Thought you guys might enjoy this... maybe I'm missing something but... for this price... for this?

I don't want to seem overly harsh here.... so I'll suffice by saying WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?! $3,950?!?!?!?!?!?!? For a "PROJECT"?!?!?!?!?!?!

AND $200.00 for shipping?!?!?!?!?!?!

Some people these days..... :rollno:

They have quite a lot of project stuff. There is a nice refinned mid sixties Guild Jetstar there (or maybe not nice, they never send more photos).

It was just not selling - although I did enquire about it - they never answered me.

It has been on display for years, and then suddenly they put the price up (like you do when things are not selling !)

The amount of money that must have cost them in ebay fees, it's a wonder they still list it...

Looks like a shifty business to me... They may be good businessmen, and I may be wrong (don't want to be insulting), but to me they just seem shady. A lot of nice stuff, but... it's like the mall. Tons of cool $hit, nothing you can afford - but you can get it at the store by your house for half the price...

Rare or not, I simply cant see the justification in paying that much for it. To a serious collector it might be worth it. To me, however, I'd rather take a brand new Lakland or Sadowsky any day. Or even a new Ric for that matter.... :)

Exactly. A serious collector who can afford it. Someone who would be interested doesn't want a Lakland or Sadowsky. Look at vintage wine collectors. They could go to the grocery store and buy the cheapo jug of wine, but there passion is collecting fine wine for $100's or $1000's even if there is no difference in taste to the non collector.

And how many of those collectors do you know? I'm just posting for Joe Everybody who cannot afford a bass "shell" for the price of a used car, when, for half of that price, one can buy a new bass that is better made and of higher quality than that Ric was brand new.

This isn't a flame or anything, I'm just saying. Most people have neither the means, nor the desire to buy such a thing from an ebay seller with such little info on it, and so few pictures... :rollno:

I'll agree, it'd be sweet to own and to refurbish, but, without almost ANY of the original stuff? No thanks...

Pablo, I knew too. ;)

I'm not a collector, but I think I can speak for them on this one. No 'serious' collector would look twice at that. Collectors don't want refinnished project basses that have been routed and otherwise molested. So, that leaves.....nobody....Nobody wants that 'bass.'

+1.

I went to school to study wine (basically have a B.A. in wine) and have a huge wine collection and some of the stuff I drink totally grosses my friends out (Amarone, Madeira, etc.). Some wines are an acquired taste(like scotch) and many don't "get" why something that taste like crap to them is so expensive.

Bass related.... many might want a new Sadowsky or Lakland for the kind of $$$ this RIC is listed for, but others buying rare $35,000 1962 Jazz basses or even 1960 $500,000 Gibson Les Pauls is "worth it" to them. Value/worth is relative. P.S. This bass IMO is a piece of crap and not worth more than a few hundred bucks IMO based on the bad condition.

I have bottles of wine that are worth as much as a new Sadowsky (I won't be drinking them - they will go to auction) and many rich collectors drink wines like this daily. Geddy Lee is a good example of this kind of collector. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Who is to say what someone does with their disposable income is wrong? Did I mention that this RIC is a hunk of overpriced crap?
