Ack... I was browsing pedals last night and saw some (looked like a 3-knob, maybe all frequency settings) formant filter pedal somewhere, and thought "ooh, that might out-do my Bassballs", but I got all drunk and sloppy and can't remember where it was (if I had a nickel for every time...). Anyone got any ideas? Searching only turns up the Line 6 FM4 and I don't want one of those.
Had a peek at their site but it's not there. IIRC it was orange or brown with chrome knobs, three in a row, looked sort-of the same shape and dimensions of the old EHX "small" boxes (small clone/stone, bassballs, DoctorQ, etc.)
formant filters are rad. the bass balls is pretty great, and has a 'formant' sort of vibe... i wish that someone would make a true bypass pedal that was a 'dock' for doepfer or eurorack synth modules... it would be awesome if there was a box with the appropriate power supply built in, and you could slide modular modules into the top, and have that module in a pedal... pinot noir will make you dream, i suppose... john
Are you emailing Mario or am I? It would be killer to have half a dozen of those. All the Bassballs sound the same to me, that's why I've got the littlest one (although I maybe should've kept the USA reissue and modded knobs for the trimpots). And I think a three-filter pedal may well beat the two-filter Bassballs, depending on how tweakable it is. That's why I want to track it down!
That isn't a formant filter, so it definitely wasn't that. Nor is the Funk-A-Duck currently in production, as far as I know.
I saw this Formant Filter as I was browsing don't know if its what you want. http://filters.muziq.be/model/doepfer/a100/a104
Yes, that's a Doepfer analogue synth module, not a guitar effect pedal. If you do find a guitar stomp box formant filter please let me know, but the lack of a stomp switch and the inputs on the face kind-of give that away as not being one.
I know Line 6's filter modeler stompbox has a formant filter setting don't know how it compares though to the bassballs.
I did mention in my opening post that I wasn't interested in the FM4. I do appreciate you trying to help, but I'm looking for something specific. If you do come across it please post, but I don't think it can be found via Google. Maybe it's being launched at Namm this year I can't remember, but I definitely saw it last night on a page somewhere. Might've been some distributor's website.
Not what you described and not in production anymore: http://filters.muziq.be/model/eh/talkingpedal Do you remember anything else that could help finding that pedal?
I think I found it! Totally Wicked Audio Little Dipper Formant Filter: It's announced in the Godlyke newsletter, I can't find anything else about it...
Not what I described but very cool! Have you got/had one of those? How was it? That's it! See, I told you it was orange or brown... Nice work dude. Shame there's no more information about it yet though.
I never had the EH version, but I do have 2 of these: http://filters.muziq.be/model/pue/talker They are exact copies of the EH pedal by a Polish company (late 70's, early 80's?). You can sweep through all the vowels. There's also a vowel function like that on the Boss AW-3 (and the Behringer copy of that one). I suppose we'll get more information during or after NAMM

I thought about a way to incorporate doepfer modules to my live set in a practical way, this may be it! the modular variation of the halfmodular moogerfooger! awesome!
