Maxon pickups. I've got an Encore-badged Jazz loaded with those. Those pickups sound so sweet with rounds that I've never tried any other strings on them.

Wow! That reminds me of my teacher, he got a fretless Hohner PJ out of a dumpster that looked flawless. He still has it.

The dumps where I am won't let you look around due to safety concerns. It's a real shame because I see on a daily basis the good stuff people throw out. I hit the blue bins of a couple of local apartment buildings to scoop up beer cans and liquor bottles. I recently took the propeller off a box fan I found there to replace the one on my box fan that I damaged. I'd bet you that 80% of the lawnmowers that make it to the dump are repairable.
