Double Bass Fourths in thumb position

When I play in the lower registers, I can play an interval of a fourth by fingering across two strings. This doesn't seem to work in thumb position. What's the correct or preferred way to do this?

I don't know about 'correct', but I normally finger that 1-2 or 2-3, placing the fingers alongside each other.

I was playing mostly 1-2 or 2-3 but my teacher also plays 1-1 sometimes. Just quickly lift your index finger, no barring. So 2-2 or 3-3 is also possible and even both notes with the thumb sometimes.

With the 1-2 and 2-3 be careful with the intonation.

Thanks for the tips. I will try both ways and see what happens. In one piece, I have had to do the 1-2 thing -- a modern flute piece that I am playing for fun because I discovered it in my box of sheet music.
