Fralin Jazz Pickup Question

I was just looking on BassExchange website and was looking in particular at the Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass 4 Set JB for $179.99 ... and Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass 4 Split Coil Set JB for $279.99 what is the difference in the tone of each of these sets?

My son has the Fralin split cool set and I would say they have more of a modern full range sound than that of a vintage (warm midrange) pickup. IMO

Generally speaking, split coil pickups will sound slightly darker than their single coil counterparts. That said I have been playing the Fralin split coils for a couple of years now and they are by far my favorite hum canceling J pickup. Great sounding pickups.

Agreed. I've had the Split-Jazz for about eight years, and they're outstanding. The reduced treble is the most obvious difference between them and single coils, but if you typically roll off the treble anyway you won't notice. For less than half the price, however, you could get DiMarzio Area J's, which have slightly less output and less beefy lows, but are similar otherwise and truly excellent. I prefer the Fralins, but I've been happy with the DiMarzio's in another bass.

If you want noiseless, consider the new Lace Man O' War sensors. The beauty of these is that they are single coils, with dramatically reduced noise due to the sensor design. I love the Lace Hot Golds in my Strat, and these MOW seem to embrace the same concept, i.e., vintage vibe with extra punch.
