4 strings are all I need
Today I will drive 2 hours to meet a guy to possibly buy a Framus bass. :hyper: Here's his info on it:

70's Framus SG bass
Needs strings, sounds good, has been repainted

It is missing the chrome cover over the bridge pickup, but that's not a deal killer. I can even recover the wood from a repaint job. From the crappy photos, I suspect it is a s-375 SG.

I know a little about Framus, but not enough. :help: YES or NO on the purchase, and what would YOU pay? I will monitor this thread until it's time to start driving. Thanks TB'ers!

Need good Pics.

As you can see, not a lot of detail to work with...

Yes, that's an S-375 from the early 70s. They were not cheap copies, but very nicely built, high quality basses.

One professional studio player I knew preferred his S-375 to everything else, and played it on hundreds of sessions. I had a Gibson EB-3 myself, and on comparison the Framus had a cleaner, punchier sound, a better bridge and neatly shielded electronics.

This adds a little balance to the feedback. I feel more informed AND more confused...in a good way. Thanks.

The kicker in this deal is that the guy also has a truckload of other vintage gear, including an old Kustom amp, Vox amp, and Kay equipment. Just enough to make me drive to satisfy my curiosity, but not enough info (yet) to make me buy the stuff.

sound was just not there, played through 100w Marshall with 2x4x12.Loud,but that was the amp.Amps are better today but so are the cheepy basses.
Unless its a REAL bargain don't buy,me I would'nt drive 2 hours when it was free.
Your choice.

might have some old pics somewhere

I had a Gibson EB-0 years ago; it had a 30" scale & sounded & played nicely, but 30" generally doesn't feel right to me. :)

If it's a 30", I'll probably not even make the drive. Woffle has conviction, even against the driving. The prospect of the other gear has me playing with the keys, though.

One hour 'til departure time. Woffle's conviction is very present in my thoughts. The other NOs strengthen that.

I'm bringing my amp & cab (4x10) & connections. Action and tone are the true factors. I'll follow up this post after the visit. Promise.

I also had an EBO in 69-70 the one with black pu, traded for a
60's preci. The preci I traded while on tour in Germany for the
said Framus.Man I don't need the coments the memory still hurts today, young&dumb.
Also over the years lost a 64 Hofner & also a 76 Rick 4001fireglow.Now nothing goes out of the house, she said when the next one arrives(got about 30 sitting around,playabout4-5) she's talkin with a lawyer.I hope she's joking.

Thanks for the guidance, folks. I'm packin' up the laptop and I'll be checking out the gear in a few hours. Grabbin' some cash.

And Woffle, it's OK. Some days we trade up, some days we trade down. And yeah, I hope she's kidding, too.
