Played a show last Friday with a three piece. Drums, bass, and a guiarist/vocalist on acoustic. After the show the guitarist called a taxi as he'd had a few and the roads were iced up. Now this guitarist doesn't have a day job. All he does is play acoustic sets. He needs his guitar to pay the rent/put food on the table. This fellow left his prized Takamini in the durn taxi. How the heck do you leave the one thing that your entire career depends on in a taxi!?!?! His only other acoustic (he only plays acoustic, no electric) is a worn Martin that is no longer playable.

If he's lucky he'll get it from the taxi's lost and found on monday. If not, then he's screwed.

Idjit.

My roommate did this a couple of years ago. He put his electric in the trunk and didn't grab it when he got out. He called me in tears and I ended up loaning him one of mine in the mean time. He called the Yellow Cab office and no one saw nuthin'. I lost a phone once and it never turned up either. We've learned our lessons, especially regarding NYC taxis!

Hope your buddy gets his breadwinner back. We can only hope for the best!

We once had a little yard sale in front of the band house. The stuff that was left over was placed in a pile with a "Free - take me" sign. Our guitar player put down his guitar in front of the pile and went down a couple of doors to get an espresso.

Of course he comes back and the guitar is gone. He put up a note above the pile explaining the guitar was not meant to be given away and could the person please return it.

It came back the next day

Did he get it back? Would the common man know that it was actually worth something? Guitars and basses I can easily being taken and sold, but I doubt cellos are as popular no matter how expensive and old they might be.

Glad your friend got his Guitar back Kael. Doesn't he have any money saved to get a new one?

As the story goes, he was running late and left it in the trunk. The cabbie found it at the end of his shift and turned it in.

There was some other story I remember hearing, too. I can't remember if it was Yo-Yo Ma or someone else but someone, again, left their instrument in the trunk. The cabbie discovers it and thinks it's worthless so he took it out and leaned it up against a trash container in an alley somewhere. Someone just happened to be walking down the street and peeked down the alley and saw the case. I think they were a string player since they instantly recognized the shape of the case and went to investigate. Turned out that it was a highly valuable, historic instrument and not too long after the discovery the trash guys came by and most felt they would've probably destroyed it. Durka-durr!! :D
