frequency shelved delay?

here's the idea... all frequencies under a certain point (say, 3K) are clean and unaffected, while all frequencies over that point are wet and have delay.
anyone make a box like this or have a decent way to do it?

near as i can figure, i could ghetto rig it with a Boss LS-2 and 2 EQ's. in loop one of the LS2, an EQ pedal with the high end totally rolled off. in loop 2, an EQ pedal with the low end rolled off, into a delay pedal.
but that takes up too much real estate on the board.

who's got a better way to do this?

You'd probably just use a standard crossover before the delay. Lows to rig, highs to delay pedal.

I do this quite frequently. The cheapest way to achieve this in pedal format is thus:

Peavey BAC-2 Biamp chorus - lots of pedals have internal crossovers and process only the highs (Ashdown etc.) but this is the one which has separate outs for high and low frequencies. Discontinued, solid metal, heavy as a brick, but does what you seek. Goes on ebay for between $10 and 40ish.

Delay pedal of your choice (I usually use an Ibanez AD99) (and I usually use a Digitech Bad Monkey, and sometimes a Dano tuna melt trem) from the high frequency out of the BAC-2, then into:

Active minimixer - I use the tiny Behringer MX400, which is much smaller than a Boss pedal, avoids the tonesuck of passive resistance mixers. Only issue is that it needs 12V rather than 9V power supply. Nice and quiet, sounds great. The effected highs and uneffected lows go into the minimixer, then out to the amp! I also often go from the mixer into a looper (Headrush) and use the other 2 inputs on the mixer to add other instruments into the loops (guitar via modeller and drum machine), so it's a versatile little box. Could also use an LS2.

Voila.

The only other instrument-level crossover I've every heard of was made by a forumite here, and looked brilliant and bulletproof, but I haven't heard anything of it recently.

i don't know what you think of rack/tabletop effects, but the electrix MoFX has delay, tremolo and flanging that can be applied to either the highs, mids, lows or a combination of the 3

The EHX Stereo Memory Man w/ Harazai has a filter knob that is a combination high-pass/low-pass control. Set it to high-pass and adjust until the right amount of low end is rolled off the delays.

+1 to the SMM w/H, i realised that the filter is exactly what i need in a delay. However, i didnt need the 7 or so modes and the looper (although it is fun), also the size was an issue for me - although its only one of the larger XO sizes (think XO Bass micro Synth) it was taking up more real estate than i wanted for an effect that i wouldnt use that much.

Another +1 to the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai. One of my favorite tones out of it came from the 300ms + Modulation mode, with the filter knob turned up a bit to get modulated delays with only a little bottom end. Drive it with a little noise or dirt, and you get some cool sounds.

IMO, it's one of your smallest options and would save you from the hassle of wiring up a loop. It might seem big, but it's actually a bit below 1.5" wider than a regular EHX XO series pedal, while the depth and height are the same.

How much space do you have to work with, BTW? No more than a Boss pedal?

kind of, yeah. i'll post a pic of my board soon... of course, i may be ditching a few of the pedals currently taking up space, but one of them is a mini-Catalinbread, so that's not much help.
plus, i don't need everything the SMM does.
hell, i hardly use my delay as is...
i just hoped that getting one with a crossover point would make it more useful to me...

As you can see, there is one pedal coming very soon which will do what you're looking for, and it'll be 1" narrower, $40 cheaper, and very awesome (based my prior experience with the Nova Delay). Yes, it does have more than you need, but I don't think you're going to find anything that compact AND inexpensive, new or used. I'm keeping a close eye on the Nova Repeater for multiple reasons...

i'll look into adding an RC filter to my delay, see what i can see, but i'll keep watch on the Nova Repeater as well...

as for digital vs. analog, i'd hoped for analog, but with technology advancements, digital can sound really good now, so it doesn't make that big a difference.
