Fresno Area Bassists

I live in the Fresno area and play in a band that is based there. We are trying to get gigs with little success so far. Our only gig so far was at Yosemite (yes, the national park) and we had a great time. We hope to have a video from it uploaded soon.

I moved here about a year and half so I don't know many people. I found this band through a Craig's List ad and it was my second audition. I didn't get the job on my first. :)

I play in the Gray Horse Band - it's old school country like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens stuff, plus we do Elvis, some old school rockabilly like Carl Perkins, it's a lot of fun, we dress up and it's kind of like seeing a honky tonk band in the 70s. We don't play that often, once every couple of months or so - next gig is at Jimbo's in Clovis on March 1st, we play 9 - 1.

I do a LOT of fill in work too, I play with 51 Aces sometimes 3 or 4 times a month, I filled in with Eddie Guzman and Wild Hare last month, etc.

Do you have a regular gig?

Yosemite is cool. What's the band and what style of music? I may be able to give you some names to check with on gigs.

So you the newest member here? :D

We are the "Rockabilly SurfKings." We play both kinds of music - rockabilly and surf. :)

Those are fairly new styles of music for me to play. My previous band(s) played jazz, swing, funk, blues, rock, and tex-mex. Before that was all-original "alternative". Before that ... (ie., lots of bands.)

I am definitely one of the newer members here.

Never, ever go there...

Great idea Snakeman!
For me it's:

The Gray Horse Band (Classic Country, oldies, old school rockabilly, honkytonk)

Semi-permanent fill-in for 51 Aces (Classic Hard Rock)

An as yet to be named original project (still rounding out the style, but it's leaning towards something progressive somewhere in the middle of jazz/fusion and metal)

Roll Call?

what acts/bands do you guys play in?

We should all try to support each as much as we can. That being said, who's got shows coming up in the near future?

I'll be playing with The Gray Horse Band this Friday at Jimbo's in Clovis from 9:00 - 1:00, and I believe I will be playing with 51 Aces at the Elbow Room in Fresno on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 (that one's up in the air still - their regular bassist doesn't have his weekend schedule yet) but I'll be there regardless as this is a going away gig for 51 Aces' singer as he heads to Nashville for a few weeks to do shows and record and hopefully kickstart his "real" music career!

I caught cjp's band at Jimbo's and they sound pretty good. To be honest, I liked their playing better than their sound but it was probably the room. Concrete floors are hell for sound.

Anyway, let's get and support each other. Keep us updated on when you are playing and I'll certainly try my best to be there.
