Fresno Area Bassists

Thanks my friend, it was good to meet you. Concrete floors and a hollow stage - Jimbo's is affectionately known as the "boom room", plus, although we had a great night overall, I wasn't at my playing best (a little imbibing prior to the show, plus first time out with my new rig, so I was really worried about the tone). But I learned a long time ago not to get worked up over a somewhat off-night. The crowd rarely if ever notices and if you worry about it, you just end up playing worse.

But like I said, overall we had a really good night, had a couple of professional photographers come out later (last 2 sets) and got some really great shots, and apparently the door and bar did really good because the venue tipped US!

Everyone needs to let each other know where we're playing so we can support each other. One of our other club members - sonicfrog - played at Frank's Place last night for the Rogue Festival - I am quite sure they are back there again tonight at 7:00, so if you can make it, go show sonicfrog support (the group is called Laurel Canyon).

I'll be at Ozzy's tonight for the going away party for 51 Aces singer Allen Woodward as he is heading to Nashville for three weeks with shows booked and recording his solo CD - he's got a really great shot at the Big Time. I'll probably play 2 or 3 tunes in the first set with the band and a special guest, former Fresno guitar phenom Blaze (also on his way to the Big Time). Should be a good rockin' time!

I caught cjp's band at Jimbo's and they sound pretty good. To be honest, I liked their playing better than their sound but it was probably the room. Concrete floors are hell for sound.

Anyway, let's get and support each other. Keep us updated on when you are playing and I'll certainly try my best to be there.

Hey everyone, if you aren't doing anything Sunday afternoon and want to support some extremely talented musicians, go see Sugar at the Elbow Room from 2pm - 5pm. (no, I'm not in this band :) )

Tony Craig on guitar
Donny Klein on bass
Alaine Tambagahan on vocals
Michael Clark on drums

Donny and Michael are also in the variety band the Valley Cats, Alaine has one of the sweetest voices you will ever hear and Tony is simply amazing, one of, if not the best, guitar players in the Valley.

You won't be disappointed

Depends on what you're into bro. Any number of cover bands playing tonight (I would recommend either Wild Hare at Sequoia Tower or Pamela Henri and the Big Boss Band at Kimmies in Clovis) - not sure what's happenin at Babylon or Starline, I think Back In The Valley is playing at the Oly (Audies, Club Fred, whatever it's called this week)

I kinda think I'm staying in tonight, but I want to go see Sugar at the Elbow Room tomorrow afternoon. 2 - 5

BUMP!

anybody got anything going on this weekend? or is everyone laying low and waiting for the Rogue festival chaos to blow over?

OK everyone - post your gigs for the weekend - I'm gonna sit in a little with Rockville at Sequoia Brewing Company, but just for a few songs. Other goings on:

We have Dale Bozzio and Missing Persons at the Starline with a couple of local bands - meh.

Tequila Rose at Jimbos tonight

Cadillac Cowboys at Jimbos tomorrow night.

Rockville at Sequoia Brewing Company both nights

Guy Beard and the Lunch Wagon Romeos with Third Rail Power Trip tomorrow night at Tokyo Gardens

Pirate Radio at the Next Bar tonight

Anything else going on?

Support local music!

Hartke HA3500 amp. I have had it a long time and it still sounds great I think. I use a combination of mixed speaker cabinets (gasp) so I won't get into those other than to say I have liked how they sound for a long time. Maybe it could sound better but I'm happy with them. I am feeling GASeous for something new but it's going to have to wait. I'm not performing nearly enough to justify getting anything new. If I were I would find a way. ;)

Guitars are a Alembic Spoiler, Fender Precision Blacktop, and Squier Precision 5-string. The Squier definitely needs some different pickups and I am going to get some soon. I really like the other two just as they are. I got the Blacktop because the Spoiler is just too heavy for my old shoulder and the Precision fits the style of music we play in my current band a bit better.

Hey guys, thanks for the invite. Cool idea to have a Fresno Area Bassists club - excuse the late reply, I don't log onto TB very often at all! Maybe a few times a year.

Anyway, I'm Crissy.
Fresno native & a doubler (upright & electric basses as well as tuba.) Although, most of my work right now calls for electric bass.

Like some of you, I play around town a lot. I get called for all kinds of work, but you can find me this fall/winter playing most frequently with:

Back to Black: A Tribute to Amy Winehouse - https://www.facebook.com/backtoblackband
plug: tomorrow 9/14 we're in Bakersfield playing a car show & doing an early set at Landmark around 8pm.

Rumba 32 Latin - Salsa & Latin Jazz. Being a college aged "youngster", I feel very lucky to be able to play with this group comprised of a rotating cast of some of the best musicians in the Central Valley. In fact most of these guys can hang just about anywhere. Outstanding group. :hyper:

The Rocky Horror Show Live! In Fresno -
playing bass in this years run of it and if you guys can, come check out a show or two and support local arts and talent! There's 12 shows this year. Opens on Halloween and closes on NYE. Link Removed

Enough about me for now. :)
