I have done fret levelling before some years ago and had very good results, but for the life of me I can't remember exactly how I did it. There's plenty of YT videos out there but none address the question I want to ask.
Neck relief. how do you do the fret level? Do you slack off the truss rod before you start to level? In which case once you restring would not the frets be different heights when they're back in tension?
Or do you adjust the truss rod before you start the level, then remove the strings? But in that case unless the neck is completely flat wouldn't you end up with lower frets at the top and bottom of the neck?
To me it's like chicken and egg. It's doing my head in. Any tips please help me. Thank you.
