Fret Rattle - Squier Vintage Modified Bass V

Tryouts for a budget-friendly 5 string continue.

Today's visit concentrated mostly on a pair of Squier Vintage Modified basses, a P and a J.

I mentioned in another post that the B and E string buzzed on these basses but it's really more like a metallic rattle. The store's set up and repair tech was there today so I chatted with him about it.

He was very generous with his time and information and even took the J version down and did some work on it, adding relief to the neck and raising the bridge saddles. This helped but even after significant work they were still clanging away.

Other 5 strings didn't do this and the Squier 4 string versions didn't either.

So an appeal to anyone on owns or plays a 5 string Squier Vintage Modified P or J: Does yours suffer the same issue?

Thanks in advance for the input,

Jim

My VMJV may have a metallic rattle sound on the nut side of a fretted string, not on the pickup side (where it matters). It is slightly audible when played acoustically, but not when plugged in. It is most likely due to the nut slots being cut slightly lower than they should have been, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

Got one and I love it been one of my main gigging basses for 2 years. No rattles.
In I playfairly aggressively with low action.
The noise you describe sounds like a bad string or loose saddles or tuners.
