When looking at other production basses I notice the fretboard edge on unbound necks appears uniform. Are they using tapered fretboards or is it a compound radius. What's the trick?

Fretboard edge width

Fenders fretboard edges are not uniform from what I have seen. They use a single radius fretboard. Which production basses are you talking about..
It may just be something I've begun to notice since I've started building. Like how sharp fret ends seem to be at the local guitar chains....
