So, Lamont Johnson (RIP) was the only internationally recognized bassist to play fretless bass in a r&b and soul context? Please tell me there are more examples, if it hasn’t been done since that’s a huge missed opportunity

I can’t speak to your question, but several years ago I was involved with a Whitney Houston tribute show (yes, the singer was excellent and did it justice).
