    hey guys,

this will be my first approach into fretless world ... so you guys that play fretless do you have certain different effects for it, or do you use the same effects you use for fretted as well?

I use all the same stuff - distortion, modulated things like chorus & tremelo, delay, pitch shift, whatever. Fretlesses sound great with a little delay on them.

    Ask Jaco. :D

I just throw in a bit of chorus for some extra mwah.

  5. Gotta do the Pino thing with some octave :bassist:

Buy the new EHX Pog with 2 octave's up and be an Oud too!

The only effects I've used effectively (no pun intended) with fretless is a bit of distortion or overdrive and chorus. Of course, I don't have a delay or reverb, but I believe they would be perfect with fretless.

It's not just Pino P., an octavider sounds great on anyone's fretless! My fretless patch on my ME-50b, has octavider, chorus and EQing: if you boost around 900hz, it really emphasises the 'm-wah'.

I like some reverb on fretless to give it some atmosphere, works best with a sparser song arrangement.

I use an old unit by Boss called an SE-50 -

It's a midi controllable half-space multi-effects unit. I have an expression pedal hooked up to it so I can control either volume of delay or speed of delay real time.

I have a very close relationship with my Washburn. Bought it off a guy at my school, for $75. It had been taken apart and stripped off finish, so I sanded, primed, and painted it, rewired it, defretted and polyurethaned the neck and voila! Fretless.

Chorus, Delay, and Octave. A hint of nice tube overdrive can sound awesome.
